TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF - BARLEY GRASS

TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF - BARLEY GRASS

Barley grass powder is a microgreen powder created from the leaf, rather than the grain section of barley. One of the most ancient cultivated plants in the world, the leaf is not only packed with nutrients, but offers exceptional detoxification support and is even anti-yeast which can support a dog with skin or digestive issues.

The barley grass powder we source for our raw dog food is high in natural vitamin E content, a nutrient which is often lower in a meat only raw dog food diet. Coupled with the proven higher volume of vitamin E in grass fed meats, we are pleased to be one of very few companies offering a raw dog food with a natural form of vitamin E.

Further nutrients in barley grass include:

·         Beta Carotene

·         Magnesium

·         Potassium

·         Calcium

·         Phosphorus

·         Iron

·         Folic Acid

·         B Vitamins

·         even B12 Cobalamin, which is rare in a plant, and is thought to be one of the reasons the ancients chose barley and barley grass as tonics before Gladiator duals!

The highly absorbable versions of minerals such as magnesium, in barley grass have seen it rise in popularity as a support for calming and relaxing dogs, albeit anecdotal, it certainly seems to influence dogs very positively.

Its use for supporting ailments though has much science and research. Papers* highlighting barley grass’ therapeutic ability to reduce inflammation, fight cancers and provide anti-oxidants are abundant across the net.

The papers also mention an abundance of the bioactive compound GABA, which is known to calm dogs via the gut brain axis and is affectionately called “the brakes on the brain” by dog trainers when noting its calming influence. So, perhaps there is more to its anecdotal calming benefits after all.

Mentioned initially, the detoxification support barley grass offers is second to none. Our world is now far too high in substances known as heavy metals. Nowadays these are found in the air as well as our water systems.  With your dog so much lower to the ground, they could be especially vulnerable to heavy metals from traffic pollution too.

Barley grass has been shown to highly support the liver in clearing these substances from the body, cleaning the blood and internal organs so they can function more optimally again.
Heavy metal presence is also thought to play a role in the growth of yeasts, as the yeast can favour more polluted conditions, and the liver is further compromised meaning it has less ability to remove the yeast toxins.

All in all the addition of barley grass is one of the most functional aspects of our new Superfood range and we are sure your dog will benefit immensely from it.
